jQuery Project logo To make finding and using the many plugins available for the jQuery JavaScript framework easier, the jQuery Foundation has launched a single site. The jQuery Plugin Registry, at plugins.jquery.com, is designed to "reduce fragmentation and distribution problems" that affect developers and users. Many of the changes are driven by the experience of previous plugin sites and therefore the system sets out to deliver a smoother workflow for contributing new plugins and enhancements of the site.

Each plugin has its own page with a link to download the plugin and other links to past versions, documentation, issue tracking and source code. New plugins need to be under version control and have documentation before being registered, and developers have to create a plugin.jquery.json manifest file which details where to find the plugin's various resources. The git repository for the plugin is registered on the site and when a semantic versioning tag is pushed into the repository, the plugins site will automatically update with the latest version.

The MIT-licensed source code for the actual repository is also available at github.com/jquery/plugins.jquery.com and has been open sourced as part of a wider initiative by the jQuery Foundation to open source all its web sites.
