The long-rumored Valentine's Day present to color-obsessed tablet buyers includes a free matching red case as well, but will only be available for a limited time.

I posted a few weeks back about a report that Samsung was preparing a Valentine's Day gift in the form of a red Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablet, and today, the company has officially launched that slate in what it's calling "garnet red."

Unfortunately, while there's a new color option, the specs haven't been updated from the original Tab 2 7.0, which is also available in silver. The 7-inch tablet (with a screen resolution of 1,024x600) runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean using a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP CPU and includes just 8GB of storage. It does include a handy built-in IR blaster to turn the Tab into a remote control for your TV.

You'll pay a little more for the garnet-red edition of the Tab 2 7.0--$219.99 instead of the $199.99 the silver version will set you back. However, you do get a matching red case thrown in as part of the deal. Samsung said that the red tablet will be available for a limited time only, so if you want to snatch it up, you should start looking for it at retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Office Depot later this week.
