Unfortunately, it doesn’t support Dropbox at the moment!

With yesterday’s updates, Canonical uploaded a new Indicator Sync, updating the old Ubuntu One indicator, which was used in previous releases of Ubuntu.

The Ubuntu development team planned this new Sync Menu for a long time now, and it appears that it will finally become reality in the upcoming Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) operating system, due for release on April 25th, 2013.

From their mockup (see the image below), we can see that the new Sync Menu is designed to support multiple cloud storage services, such as Dropbox and Ubuntu One, which is installed by default in Ubuntu.

However, at this point there’s no sign that Dropbox is supported, not in the version uploaded recently on Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) at least. Maybe in future versions? Who knows?

All we know right now is that Indicator Sync brings full support for the Ubuntu One cloud storage from Canonical, allowing users to see a list with current and recent transfers, similar to the functionality from the Dropbox client.

Other than that, it includes a ON/OFF switch, so you can easily stop the sync process at any time, and a few other useful entries, such as “Open Ubuntu One” (opens the Ubuntu One Control Panel), “Open the Ubuntu One Folder” (opens the Ubuntu One folder from your Home directory), “Share a File” (opens the Share Links section from the Ubuntu One Control Panel), “Go to the Ubuntu One Website” (opens the Ubuntu One website in the default web browser), “Get More Space” (allows you to purchase extra space for your account) and “Get Help on the Web”.

This said, the new Indicator Sync menu is a welcome entry in the upcoming Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) operating system, but it will be a very popular entry if it supports more cloud storage services, such as Dropbox or SkyDrive.
