Valve's original Day of Defeat game and the Day of Defeat: Source titles are now in beta on Linux via the Steam client.

Phoronix readers have begun writing in this evening that "Day of Defeat" -- the original and Source versions -- are now available via the Steam Linux client as beta.

Day of Defeat is a World War II first person shooter that began as a Half-Life mod in 2000 while later the developers joined Valve Software to create a standalone a game. The original title was released in 2000 (and the retail version in 2003) atop the original "GoldSrc" engine.

Day of Defeat: Source was first released in 2005 as an updated version of Day of Defeat using Valve's Source Engine.

Both of these exciting warfare games are now in beta on Steam for Linux. It's great to see Valve continuing to bring their titles to Linux -- both old and new -- as they prepare the Linux-based Steam console. As I've long been saying with the exclusive Valve/Steam coverage on Phoronix, you can expect most -- if not all -- of Valve's games to be ported to Linux.

Now time to see if the remaining issues with Steam are worked out for a good benchmarking experience of these Valve Linux titles for a variety of hardware, drivers, and distributions...
