Acquia, the support and services company run by Drupal lead developer Dries Buytaert, has open sourced Drupal Create, an iOS application that allows Drupal users to post content to their site from their mobile devices. Buytaert says open sourcing the application is "kick-starting development of mobile content publishing apps for Drupal." The open source Drupal content management system (CMS) runs a number of high profile web sites from the official web site of the White House to the web sites of Stanford University and General Electric.

With Drupal Create, users can submit content from their mobile device to any Drupal site that has the MASt module installed. MASt provides an endpoint in Drupal for mobile applications. Acquia says it has open sourced the code so that site owners can build their own applications that specifically address the needs of their users and their specific Drupal setup. The company says that custom apps can be tailored to make use of an iOS device’s features, including location and social APIs, as well as its integrated camera and speaker. Drupal Create is built on top of the Drupal iOS SDK.

The source code for Drupal Create can be downloaded from GitHub and is available under an MIT License. One example of a custom application built with Drupal Create is the Drupal Gardens iOS app that is available free of charge from the App Store.
