Enlightenment On Wayland Still Being Done
A lot of Linux desktop users are looking forward to the full port of the Enlightenment desktop to Wayland.
While KD/QtE is now moving forward promptly with Wayland support and so is the GNOME/GTK support, the Enlightenment desktop developers have also been quick to support the X.Org Server successor and have been moving in this direction for some months. Besides supporting the Enlightenment window manager / desktop on Wayland, there's been the obvious support by the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL).
Enlightenment is going well for Wayland and can already handle clients. Enlightenment developers in the past few months have also reaffirmed their commitment for Wayland over Canonical's Mir Display Server.
Anyhow, Enlightenment E18 has been in a feature-freeze since last month (mailing list announcement) so more of the Wayland work will likely wait until Enlightenment E19 unless feature freeze exceptions are granted. There isn't yet a firm release date for E18, but it's expected this calendar year.
Anyhow, for those interested in more details on Enlightenment on Wayland or if you're simply looking to share your views, one of the popular threads in our forums the past few days has been about Enlightenment on Wayland. Enjoy. Meanwhile, I'll also see if Carsten Haitzler has any new thoughts to share on Wayland for a future Phoronix story.
