MSM DRM/KMS Driver For Snapdragon Progresses
Rob Clark has posted the second version of his MSM DRM driver, an open-source reverse-engineered kernel Direct Rendering Manager driver for Qualcomm's "Snapdragon" SoCs.
Published earlier this month was the Snapdragon DRM driver that was written by Rob Clark of the Freedreno driver project for reverse-engineering Qualcomm's ARM Linux graphics support.
With the second version of the patches, the MSM driver now supports the GPU and can handle tear-free, page-flipped kmscube running.
For more details on this MSM DRM driver that amounts to over 13,000 lines of new Linux kernel code can be found on the dri-devel mailing list. The code is still a work-in-progress and without the official blessing of Qualcomm, but based upon Rob's commitment to Freedreno Gallium3D and the progress he's made on it in the past year, this MSM driver stands good chances of making its way to the mainline Linux kernel in a future version.
