GNOME 3.10 Continues Pushing Ahead With Wayland
New GTK+, Mutter, and GNOME Shell development releases in recent days continues advancing the GNOME 3.10 support for Wayland.
As the very latest GNOME 3.10 Wayland developments:
- GNOME Shell 3.9.90 has continued work towards running as a Wayland compositor. The work in this most recent release include switching to the Mutter abstraction layer for cursor tracking and adding a confirmation dialog for display changes.
- Since last week, GNOME Display Settings now work on Wayland. With Mutter 3.9.90 there is the DBus API for display configuration, the new abstraction layer for cusor tracking (that GNOME Shell is taking advantage of already), and support for the plugin modality under Wayland.
- GTK+ 3.9.12 has support so that both Wayland and X11 clipboard implementations for the GNOME tool-kit can co-exist just fine.
GNOME 3.10 will be officially released by the end of September and with it will come experimental Wayland support though it won't really be a polished experience until 2014.
