Wwise Engine Being Ported To Linux, SteamOS
The Audiokinetic Wwise engine middleware will be ported to Linux thanks to Valve's SteamOS.
WWise is an audio middleware solution for games that consists of an audio authoring tool and a cross-platform sound engine along with a real-time game simulator, plug-in architecture, and other possible components. Wwise is already found on OS X / Windows along with consoles like the PlayStation and Xbox 360/One and even Nintendo Wii/3DS, but only now thanks to Valve is it making its way to Linux.
The Wave Works Interactive Sound Engine is used in games like Assassin's Creed, Halo 4, Mass Effect, Saints Row: The Third, Total War: Rom II, and many others.
Confirmation of Wwise being ported to Linux/SteamOS was confirmed on Twitter by Audiokinetic's Bernard Rodrigue.
