Shadowrun Returns patch 1.1 introduces Linux support, now in beta

The impending patch 1.1 for Shadowrun Returns, Harebrained Schemes' Kickstarted tactical role-playing game, will introduce Linux support and a slew of new features and code updates, according to a post on the developer's website.

The Linux client will initially be rolled out to the Steam-only beta before it is released with the the 1.1 update. From that point on, the Linux version of the game will receive updates in step with the Windows PC and OSX versions.

Numerous other changes and features will be implemented once update 1.1 rolls out, including a script to control the fading and animation of light colors, trigger events when players use items and and freshly tweaked Chi abilities will now offer passive benefits. An overview of the updates is available on Harebrained Schemes' website with a detailed changelog available here.

Harebrained notes that progress is being made with save game improvements, explaining that while the code architecture is now in place, it doesn't want to rush the process.

"And we are working through all the extra logic required to save the myriad game states that already exist within the code base," the post states. "As soon as the feature is complete and fully tested, we'll release it for Dead Man's Switch but we don't want to rush something this complex. We definitely plan to have it fully implemented in time for the Berlin release."
