While ardent Linux gamers have likely already heard and own a copy, for those that didn't hear yet Valve's latest kindness, the Linux-friendly entertainment company is giving away their very popular Left 4 Dead 2 game today and tomorrow as a Christmas present to gamers.

Fetching a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 permanently just requires firing up your Steam client -- on Linux, OS X, or Windows -- and installing L4D2 before mid-day (PST) on the 26th. It's that easy.

Additional details and instructions on Valve's Source-powered Left 4 Dead 2 giveaway can be found via this forum thread. As a forewarning, Valve's Steam servers are getting hammered hard this holiday.
