gNewSense 3.1 Available For Free Software Purists
The latest release of the FSF-sponsored gNewSense Linux distribution is now available for those that can get by without needing any binary blobs for their hardware drivers or non-free software.
The gNewSense 3.1 release was announced Sunday by Sam Geeraerts as a minor update. The gNewSense 3.1 update has some NetworkManager, repository, and installer fixes. Details about today's gNewSense Linux distribution update can be found at NonGNU.org.
The gNewSense operating system continues to be one of the most pure free software platforms as its Debian base drops non-free software repositories, avoids trademark issues, and the real issue preventing it from working nicely for many users is the stripping away of non-free firmware from the Linux kernel. For a while there wasn't even Mesa in gNewSense but at least that's in good standing now. The updated Linux distribution can be downloaded at gNewSense.org.
