Systemd Is The Future Of Debian

Since this weekend we have known that systemd was winning the Debian init system battle, but now it's official: systemd has prevailed over Upstart in Debian.

After a very heated fight between the Debian technical committee and also Debian stakeholders, Bdale Garbee as the chairman of the tech committee has announced systemd will be used in Debian 8.0 Jessie.

Bdale has been a supporter of systemd in Debian and used his casting vote to make it the clear winner over Upstart or having to postpone the voting for another round of further discussions.

Bdale wrote:

Per 6.3.2, I use my casting vote to choose D as the winner.

Therefore, the resolution reads:

We exercise our power to decide in cases of overlapping jurisdiction (6.1.2) by asserting that the default init system for Linux architectures in jessie should be systemd.

Should the project pass a General Resolution before the release of "jessie" asserting a "position statement about issues of the day" on init systems, that position replaces the outcome of this vote and is adopted by the Technical Committee as its own decision.
