Debian TC Won't Pass Resolution Over Init System Coupling

Since the Debian technical committee decided they will use systemd over Upstart, the latest vote on their agenda was over init system coupling and how Debian developers maintaining packages should deal with different init systems or what guidance the technical committee should send to these package maintainers.

In the end, the Debian technical committee voted to say they won't be enforcing any new rules or guidance at this time. Bdale Garbee wrote today;

With all 8 votes cast, this CFV on the init system coupling issue has ended in a tie between options "L" and "N". Given my vote on this issue, it should be no surprise that I use my casting vote to declare option "N" is the winner.

Therefore:

The TC chooses to not pass a resolution at the current time about whether software may require specific init systems.

Yesterday, technical committee member Ian Jackson also began calling for changes to their constitution. So far the proposed changes are drawing in mixed reactions by committee members.
