Citybound Plans To Revive City-building Sims Using Javascript & WebGL

By - | Views: 12,632
Citybound is a city-building simulator inspired by games like SimCity & A-Train. The developer has been making blog posts showing it off.

The developers aims
  • It will be a single-player game that works completely offline.
  • The goal is to simulate one whole, huge region at once - no need for tiny city lots or artificial city interaction dynamics.
  • It will be affordable and will not rely on DLC.
  • Alpha and Beta versions will be available for a reduced price.
  • Moddability will be a priority, not an afterthought.

So, the developer has their heart in the right place since it wont rely on DLC and buying early will be cheaper. Paying less for alpha and beta software is something I think should be the norm, but thanks to Kickstarter a lot of developers use it as higher priced rewards...anyway.

The game is built in javascript and uses WebGL for graphics, so it could run anywhere WebGL will.

You can see an early video of it in action:

I can't wait to see some actual building generation in there, so far it's a good road builder/proof of concept. There is a nice gif of what it may look like:

One to keep an eye on folks. The playable alpha is planned for June!

It would be nice for us to have a more standard city-building game like SimCity on Linux, while we have Tropico 5 on its way it is a very different game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Oh A-Train..i still have an original store bought copy of A-Train that contains three 3 1/4 inch floppy disks, and the 5 1/4 inch OLD floppys, and the game booklet.

A-Train! I love this game. Took me 10 years to figure out how to win, haha (hint: it's all about evading taxes). I still have the game manual somewhere, too. Already the smell of that paper brings back some great childhood memories...

Regarding Citybound, the work this 21 year "old" guy does looks pretty impressive. It already shows more promise than Sim City 5 ever did. Let's hope the project doesn't die halfway through like so many other efforts before it.
