14 DAY TRIAL // Calibre, an eBook reader, editor, and library management software, is now at version 1.34 and features a number of important changes and improvements.
The Calibre software can be used in more ways than one – as a simple eBook reader or as a tool to convert your books for the appropriate devices. It features so many options that users will probably never get to try them all.
This is one of the reasons why the Calibre developer is releasing weekly updates for the application and why so many different aspects of the software are being constantly improved.
One of the most important improvements has been implemented for the eBook viewer. Calibre has a very powerful tool that allows users to read all types of eBook formats.
“When in flow mode, handle swiping on the touchscreen differently. Swiping now scrolls line by line in flow mode instead of page by page. If you wish to scroll page by page in flow mode, tap instead of swiping,” reads the announcement.
According to the changelog, all guide entries that are of a type present in the EPUB 2.0 specification are now kept (this is especially useful for the newer Kindle reader), when the user is adding MOBI files, if the author name is in LN, FN format, the application will automatically change it to FN LN format, and when Calibre is checking French texts it will list all words that have the same stem as a single word.
Also, a context (right click) menu that allows for quick operations on all selected words has been added, a button has been added to import a list of words in bulk into the user dictionary, it's now possible to sort words by case sensitivity, a bug that caused spell checking to fail when using the built-in Spanish dictionary has been fixed, language declarations are now respected for nested tags, and the “Show next occurrence” button in the Spell Check dialog is no longer failing to show the next occurrence.
If you’ve decided to compile your own version of Calibre, be warned. It has many dependencies and it can be quite tricky. Fortunately, the developer also provides a complete list of dependencies, if you feel brave enough.
