The distribution includes the LibreOffice 4.2.5 and Chromium 35 applications

Alexander Tratsevskiy had the pleasure of announcing a few minutes ago, July 2, that Calculate Linux, a Russian distribution of Linux based on the Gentoo operating system, reached version 13.19 with tons of new features, updated applications, and general system improvements.

Calculate Linux 13.19 appears to be the last maintenance release for the 13.x branch of the distribution and comes with Linux kernel 3.14.9, KDE Plasma 4.13.2 for the main Desktop edition, as well as LibreOffice 4.2.5 office suite and Chromium 35 web browser for both Desktop flavors.

“We are happy to announce that Calculate Linux 13.19, the last of the 13th, has been released. CL 14 is coming soon after, with many new features such as totally rewritten assemble & compilation utilities, GUI and/or command line updater, automatic update check, new approach to profiles, etc.,” Alexander Tratsevskiy said in the official release announcement.

Among other improvements, we can mention that a Shorewall configuration tool has been added, as well as support for the exFAT filesystem. In addition, native PulseAudio support has been introduced, along with the powerful GStreamer framework for an out-of-the-box multimedia experience.

The Audacious audio player has been replaced with the Clementine music player in the Xfce edition of Calculate Linux Desktop, while the Blueman utility returns for handling Bluetooth configuration. Moreover, the UEFI installation has been repaired, as well as the screen locking issue.

Among other changes we can mention that it is now possible to specify the IP address for your PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) server, installing on Btrfs partitions is possible again from the Live CD/DVD, binary repositories are now better handled, the video driver detection errors have been addressed, and the Dmidecode and Inxi tools have been included.

Last but not least, various applications have been removed from Calculate Linux, including the Gnome-PPP and KPPP Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection managers, Geany IDE (Integrated Development Environment), and DC-client.

It is also important to mention here that the Directory Server edition of Calculate Linux comes with the Bind 9.9.4, OpenLDAP 2.4.35, Postfix 2.10.3, ProFTPD 1.3.4d, and Samba 3.6.23 server-oriented packages. Additionally, the Desktop edition comes with Amarok 2.8.0 and digiKam 4.0, the Xfce flavor includes Xfce 4.10 and GIMP 2.8.10, and the Media Center version is built around XBMC 13.0.

Calculate Linux is distributed in multiple editions. These include Calculate Linux Desktop, Calculate Linux Desktop Xfce, Calculate Linux Directory Server, Calculate Linux Media Center, Calculate Linux Scratch, and Calculate Linux Scratch Server.
