The latest update for Urban Terror brings an updated HUD (Heads Up Display), open-sourced menu files and a big number of bug fixes.

Urban Terror is a free first-person shooter taking place in realistic environments, but with a Hollywood-style gameplay, allowing sliding, walljumps and trickjumps, with tens of beautiful maps, dozens of weapons to choose from and game modes like CTF, Survivor, TDM or Freeze Tag.

This release is an incremental update to the stable 4.2 series, and brings an new HUD, open-sourced menu files, several enhancements and bug fixes. Some of the improvements include a revamped mini-scoreboard and team overlay, updated font using Roboto, updated netgraph and player damage area, updated beep for the warmup countdown. The new font really looks nicer compared to the old one.

The new HUD uses completely revamped graphics for all the elements (including mini-scoreboard, scores area, health and chat area) and a new font. The health area will also show the current health percentage.

We’re excited to announce today the 4.2.021 release of Urban Terror! Among the many improvements and bug fixes, we decided to rework the Heads-up Display (HUD) to give it a more modern look. Do not hesitate to comment on this thread.

There are also around 20 bug fixes in this release, like speedometer fixes, a missing texture, and an unlocked cl_pitchspeed variable. The full changelog can be found here.

We also had a lot of requests and concept submissions for a rework of the User Interface (UI), therefore we decided to make the menu files open-source. We will do a blog post about it very soon.

Install Urban Terror in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and Mint 17

Although the game is free, the assets are not open-source, so Urban Terror doesn’t come in the Ubuntu repositories, but a full package with precompiled binaries is available on their downloads page.

To download and install Urban Terror, get the archive from here (the file called UrbanTerror42_full021.zip), uncompress it, and then run the appropriate binary (Quake3-UrT.i386 for 32-bit or Quake3-UrT.x86_64 for 64-bit). If you already have a previous version of Urban Terror you don’t need to re-download it, just run the updater from within the installation directory (either UrTUpdater.i386 or UrTUpdater.x86_64).
