The devs are getting closer to a stable release

The Ubuntu Touch operating system has reached a new milestone and Canonical has released a new update for the RTM branch, bringing the entire project a little closer to a shippable version that can run smoothly and without any bugs.

The Ubuntu devs have been working to solve all the problems and various issues that still linger in the Ubuntu Touch images and they've done a really good job until now.

Most of the bugs have been taken care of and the list is getting shortened with each version. This was to be expected because the devs have been focusing on this particular branch for a while now. They need to be able to provide Meizu and Bq with a stable iteration of Ubuntu Touch so they can sell devices with this OS.

This is the tenth update for the RTM branch and the experience has been getting smoother with each new version. The last couple of releases have been more about various small fixes than anything else, but if you were to compare this version with the first in the branch, it would be able to spot some major changes, for the interface and in regard for the performance.

Ubuntu Touch RTM Update 10 is looking great

Canonical needed two years to get this far, but now they are extremely close to their goal. In just a few months’ time, Ubuntu Touch will be powering phones that will be sold across the world, and that is no small feat. It's something built for medium- and high-end phones, so the expectations for it are very big.

"Image promotion for ubuntu-rtm! Today #169 has passed QA's testing criteria and we have made the decision to promote it as image #10 in our stable channel. Please upgrade your devices and enjoy! The delta between #10 and #9 is really small, since only fixes for #1391230 + a new music-app have been accepted for this release. But after all this testing that has been done, we now know that no new issues have been introduced."

"Please remember that this image still suffers from the cgmanager bug, so in specific cases you can experience problems related to launching applications. A possible fix is under testing right now and should be available for the next promotion. In any way, image #10 is considered to be our 'Gold Master' image. As mentioned before, for next week we will try concentrating on vivid," said Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak.

It's worth mentioning that the "Gold Master" image doesn't mean that the work for the operating system has been completed; it only means that it's good enough to move forward. Those of you who already have the system installed should upgrade as soon as possible.

For now, only Nexus 4 devices are supported and it's the only way to get all the latest updates for the OS.
