A new Beta release of this excellent distribution is out

Korora, an unofficial Fedora Remix distribution with tweaks and extras to make the system work out of the box and that aims to provide an improved user experience, has been upgraded to version 21 Beta.

Fedora 21 was a very good release. Actually, it's one of the best versions in the series and the community has welcomed it with opened arms. You might think that it's difficult to improve upon it, but this is one of Korora's main goals. The team building this distro has managed to do this in the past and there is no reason to think that they won't able to do it again.

Still, this is a Beta release and it should be treated as such, although it seems to be pretty stable and there are no major issues. It's not recommended to test it on a production machine, but it has a Live CD and it's easy to run.

Korora 21 Beta is not what you would expect

The developers of Korora have gone through great trouble to make their system really stand apart from Fedora and they've done a pretty good job. They did this with the help of a couple of GNOME extensions and by adopting the Numix Circle theme, which really makes a difference.

"Although this is a beta release of Korora, it is derived from Fedora 211 stable and should be ready for every day use. We are keen however, to hear any issues people encounter so that we can improve it for the final release. It has been almost a year since our last release and we have spent a lot of time developing some new core technologies which lay the groundwork for some exciting features in the future," reads the official announcement.

The developers have also explained that all the latest desktop environments have been used, like Cinnamon 2.4, GNOME 3.14, KDE Software Compilation 4.14.3, and Xfce 4.10.1. As you can imagine, all the advancements made by Fedora 21 are also present in this unofficial flavor as well.

There is also a piece of bad news. The lack of maintainers has forced the team to drop the MATE edition of Korora, so you'll have to settle with the Cinnamon version for a similar experience.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Korora 21 Beta "Darla" right now from Softpedia. The links for all the flavors can be found in the same location.
