In case you didn’t know, BQ, the Spanish phone manufacturer that produces the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition smartphone, has a YouTube channel, called Canal bq. There, you will find all sorts of instructive videos, some of which are about the brand-new Ubuntu Phone device.

The video, entitled Tecnópolis 7: Ubuntu, starts with a small interview with Adan Munoz, product development lead at BQ, who showcases the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Phone and explains how the idea of developing an Ubuntu Phone became reality.

Adan Munoz also explains that, while Canonical develops the Ubuntu operating system for phones (also known as Ubuntu Touch), they are taking care of the hardware part and that some modifications needed to be made to the BQ Aquaris E4.5 device, such as to remove the capacitive buttons on screen because Ubuntu doesn’t need them, in order to fully support the Ubuntu operating system.

BQ was involved in the development of the Ubuntu Phone kernel

BQ was also involved in the development of the kernel used in Ubuntu Phone OS, so that all the drivers are correctly integrated. In the video, he will showcase some basic functions of the device, including the infographic lock screen, the ability to quickly access the notification system without having to unlock the device, what you will see after unlocking the phone, as well as some administrative features.

The Ubuntu Phone App Store, the phone’s System Settings (from where you can fully configure and customize the device, as well as to access the Developer Mode), multi-tasking, and the App Launcher are also showcased in the video. On the second part of the video, you will see a very short interview with Victor Gonzales, which is responsible with support for Ubuntu Phones.
