After announcing the first point release of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.0 (Nestor) on February 13, 2015, as reported on Softpedia on that day, Alan Baghumian had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 1 (codename Rinaldo) distribution, which brings a small number of changes and improvements compared to the last stable version of the OS, Parsix GNU/Linux 7.0r1.

Probably the most prominent feature of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 is the transition to the current stable release of the GNOME desktop environment, version 3.14.3. The GNOME Shell 3.14.3 user interface is included as well. As usual with any Parsix GNU/Linux release, the kernel (version 3.14.32 in this first test release) is patched with BFS (Brain Fuck Scheduler) and TuxOnIce 3.3.

“Our annual release cycle consists of two major and four minor versions. We have our own software repositories and build servers to build and provide all the necessary updates and missing features in Debian stable branch,” was stated in the official release announcement of the distribution.

Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5's code name is Rinaldo

Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 (code name Rinaldo) brings the latest stable GNOME desktop environment, a new kernel built using our modernized kernel build system, updated installer, a new version of systemd and an upgraded X.Org Server.

Among the applications that received updates in this first test release of the forthcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 computer operating system, we can mention X.Org Server 1.16.4, GNU Iceweasel 35.0.1, LibreOffice 3.5.4, Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.18, Gparted 0.12.1, and Empathy 3.12.7. In addition, GRUB 2 is the default boot loader for the distribution, and the entire operating system has been synchronized with the Debian 7 Wheezy software repositories as of February 20, 2015.

UEFI systems are supported by the 64-bit edition of the OS

Furthermore, the Adobe Flash Player browser plugin has been updated to version 11.2.202.442 for both 64 and 32-bit editions of the OS, and the default artwork is now based on the Metal X Shell theme created by justviper. As expected, the 64-bit edition of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 1 can be installed on modern UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) machines.

You can download Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 1 right now via Softpedia. The operating system is distributed as Live DVD ISO images for 32 and 64-bit CPU architectures. The ISOs have been compressed with the powerful XZ and SquashFS compression algorithms. Please note that Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 1 is an unstable release and it should not be installed on production machines.
