Meizu is now showing the MX4 Ubuntu Edition at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and it looks like Samsung employees are also looking at what Ubuntu has to offer, not just regular fans.

Meizu announced shortly before the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that it's going to use the MX4 device as a platform for Ubuntu phones. We've talked a lot about this device in the past few months, and its hardware specifications are not a secret. It's a high-end phone and it can go head to head with some of the more important names in the industry, like Samsung or HTC.

As it was to be expected, the Ubuntu Edition of the MX4 phone is already turning some heads in Barcelona and some of the Samsung employees took some time to see what the competition is brewing, although to be fair, that's already possible. Ubuntu for phones is an open source project and anyone with a BQ or Nexus 4 phone can try it.

Meizu is poking fun at Samsung

Meizu is making a funny comment on their Google+ page saying that "Samsung employees realizing the MX4 Ubuntu edition outshines the Galaxy S6." That's of course a joke and it's not meant to be taken seriously, but the truth is that Samsung has its own Linux-based system and they probably want to see what the "other guys" are doing.

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the first event that lets users see how Ubuntu runs on a Meizu MX4 phone, so it's easy to understand why they are gathering such a crowd. If you want to see the Ubuntu phones in action, you can visit the Canonical, Meizu, and BQ booths for more information.

There is no launch date for the official launch of Meizu MX4 and everyone is still waiting to see how much longer they are going to wait. We'll keep you informed if anything changes in this regard.
