KDE had the pleasure of announcing today, March 24, the immediate availability of the second maintenance release for its KDE Plasma 5.2 desktop environment. This necessary update brings small, yet important bug fixes that promise to improve the overall performance and stability of the KDE Plasma 5 interface.

KDE Plasma 5.2.2 brings improvements to many of KDE Plasma’s core components, including Breeze, KDE GTK Config, Plasma Addons, KIO Extras, KScreen, KSysGuard, KWin, libkscreen, Milou, Muon, Oxygen, Plasma Networkmanager (plasma-nm), Powerdevil, Plasma Desktop, as well as Plasma Workspace.

“Today KDE releases a bugfix update to Plasma 5, versioned 5.2.2,” was stated in the official release announcement. “Plasma 5.2 was released in January with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds a month's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors.”

There are over 150 bugfixes in the KDE Plasma 5.2.2 software update

Highlights of this release include translated documentation, support for creating a “gtk-3.0” directory before storing the settings file in it, rounding error fix for the KScreen tool, GHNS material installation fix for KWin, support for extracting UI messages in Plasma Desktop, and proper displaying of the SSID when using non-ASCII characters in Plasma Networkmanager.

According to the release notes, the Powerdevil component of the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment has received some code changes that prepare it for the upcoming Linux 4.0 kernel. However, most of the changes in this release have been implemented in the Muon package manager. As expected, the list of changes is huge as there are approximately 160 bugfixes and improvements introduced in KDE Plasma 5.2.2.

While you can download the KDE Plasma 5.2.2 sources right now via Softpedia or directly from the project’s website, we strongly recommend to wait for the packages to appear on the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux operating system.
