Philip Papadopoulos announced on May 11 the immediate availability for download of Rocks Cluster 6.2, a specialist Linux kernel-based operating system derived from the well-known CentOS distribution, which in turn is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Dubbed Sidewinder, Rocks Cluster 6.2 is now based on the CentOS 6.6 operating system, and it includes all the upstream package updates as of May 10, 2015. It is available for download as an installable-only ISO image that runs only on 64-bit capable computers.

According to the release notes, Rocks Cluster 6.2 (Sidewinder) updates support for the ZFS filesystem (version 0.6.4.1 is now included), Condor has been updated to version 8.2.8 and it is now the default HTCondor roll, and it's now possible to reconfigure your cluster's FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name).

perfSONAR support has been implemented in Rocks 6.2

In addition to the new features mentioned above, Rocks Cluster 6.2 includes support for perfSONAR, a widely deployed test and measurement infrastructure. Those who want to build clusters will be able to choose between installing the complete graphical user interface (GUI) of perfSONAR and just the command-line utilities.

When deploying a standalone perfSONAR host, it is recommended that you install the full GUI. In addition, you should keep in mind that being able to customize the perfSONAR installation will give you four attributes that control which elements of the test and measurement infrastructure are installed on the respective hosts.

Last but not least, Rocks Cluster 6.2 now lets users who want to build a front-end on networks with jumbo frames (Ethernet frames with over 1,500 bytes of payload) to specify the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) on the "build" command-line tool. Download Rocks Cluster 6.2 right now from Softpedia.
