All package maintainers must resubmit their packages

All AUR (Arch User Repository) package maintainers received an email on June 1, 2015, that notifies them about the fact that the entire software repository will be migrated to a Git-based platform starting June 8, 2015.

The migration process will take approximately one month, until July 8, during which all package maintainers are urged to resubmit the packages they still want to maintain to the aur4.archlinux.org website (currently under maintenance).

Therefore, as an AUR package maintainer myself, I have a little more than a month from the moment of writing this article to submit all of my packages to a the new website, which should be enough time for anyone.

"Starting from June 8th, 2015, the Arch User Repository is being migrated to a Git-based platform. If you want to continue maintaining your AUR packages, please submit them to aur4.archlinux.org before July 8th, 2015," reads the email received by all AUR package maintainers.

Here's what you need to know if you're an AUR package maintainer

This is a crucial announcement for all AUR (Arch User Repository) package maintainers, so there are a few things you should know if you want to have all of your packages safely moved to the new Git-based platform.

First of all, you should know that all of your AUR packages have been reserved for you so that nobody else can resubmit them on the new platform, but only until July 8, 2015. After that, you lose ownership of those packages.

If you choose not to resubmit some of your packages, they might be claimed by another maintainer after July 8. You should also know that the current repository will be replaced by the Git-based one starting August 8, 2015.

It is also of the essence to take into account that you must submit any updates you make to your packages between June 8 and August 8 to the new aur4.archlinux.org website powered by Git, otherwise they will be lost. More details can be found in the Arch Wiki.
