A new daily build has been released by the developers

The Solus operating system has just received another boost of improvements and developers have pushed another stable version out the door. The new daily build should be very interesting, especially with the new system layout.

The developers had a couple of difficult days with Solus OS, and they have now released a new daily build with an impressive changelog. Some new packages have been added, and lots of smaller modifications have been made. From the looks of it, they are getting closer to a much more stable version, and that launch date no longer feels too further into the future.

In case you didn't know, Solus is a new Linux distribution built by Ikey Doherty and his team. It's developed from scratch, and it uses a new desktop environment named Budgie that is made by the same team. A daily build has been made available for a while now, making it very easy to install and test.

Latest Solus OS is fast

We've been writing about Solus OS for a while now and the developers have recently announced, with great pride, we might add, that the boot time for the distro has been greatly improved, way beyond what you would normally expect.

"This ISO sees many fixes, and a full toolchain rebootstrap to help modernise our filesystem layout (i.e. deprecating /lib, /lib64 and /usr/lib in favour of a unified /usr/lib64). We're improving our strengths as a distribution, and have begun collecting debug packages so that we may help users debug their issues more easily," said Ikey Doherty in the announcement.

According to the changelog, unrar has been added, netfilter NAT/masq support has been enabled in the kernel, some tweaks have been implemented to Cairo, lz4 has been temporarily disabled due to boot issues on non-UEFI systems, File Roller has been upgraded to version 3.16.3, and lots of smaller fixes have been implemented.
