The FreeBSD Project, through Glen Barber, has recently announced that the second Beta build of the forthcoming and highly anticipated FreeBSD 10.2 operating system is now available for download and testing.

According to the release announcement, FreeBSD 10.2 Beta 2 adds the missing GEOM_LABEL in the kernel configuration files for the Pandaboard and Gumstix ARM boards, repairs the "devices requiring memory below 4G" issue, fixes incorrect implementation of the kvasprintf() function in the Linux compatibility and emulation code, and addresses some issues with cylinder group blocks.

Furthermore, it adds support for setting the initial system clock time on systems with a CMOS clock that was set before the year 2000, updates the pw(8) utility with support for creation of users with UID 0, updates the NTP suite to version 4.2.8p3, includes the IPSEC's protocol and port information in the SADB_ACQUIRE message, fixes issues with MIB names in the "user" sysctl(3) tree, and updates the lo(4) driver.

Last but not least, a kernel bug has been patched, and there are fixes for the watchdog(4) device. Those of you who want to test the Beta 2 build of FreeBSD 10.2 can download the ISO images for 64-bit, 32-bit, as well as IA64, PowerPC, PPC64, and SPARC64 architectures right now. Also, there are SD card images available for various ARM boards, including BeagleBone, Raspberry Pi Model B, CuBox-Hummingboard, Gumstix, Pandaboard, and Wandboard.
