The Pisi Linux development team was glad to inform us all earlier today about the immediate availability for download of the final release of Pisi Linux 1.2, a GNU/Linux distribution forked from Pardus Linux.

Powered by Linux kernel 3.19.8 and built around the KDE 4.14.3 desktop environment, Pisi Linux 1.2 contains quite up-to-date open-source applications, such as the Mozilla Firefox 38.0.5 web browser, GIMP 2.8.14 image editor and viewer, Clementine 1.2.3 music player, Calligra 2.8.7 and LibreOffice 4.3.5.1 office suite apps, as well as core components like Glibc 2.20, Binutils 2.24, Coreutils 8.23, Qt 4.8.6, and Qt 5.4.1. The MATE 1.8.0 desktop environment has been included as well.

"Pisi Linux, has continued its activities after the second stable version 1.1, and we've reached 1.2," reads the announcement. "This version will be the last version of the 1.x series. This version resulting from intensive work; strong, stable, comfortable to use, safe and so fast. The strength of the structure without damaging your system uses equipment safely to the end. In addition, this version was offered to us along with many innovations."

A modern distro not only for Turkish users

For those of you who are not in the loop, we want to inform you that Pisi Linux is a modern distribution of GNU/Linux that was originally forked from the Pardus Linux operating system and it's maintained independently. It uses the PiSi package manager and is targeted at Turkish users, but it also supports more than 14 other languages. Pisi Linux 1.2 is the second and last maintenance release in the 1.x series of the distribution.

At the moment, Pisi Linux 1.2 is distributed only as a KDE edition, which can be downloaded right now from Softpedia or directly from the project's website, whichever suits you best. Please try to keep in mind that it's available only for 64-bit computers.

Update: A previous version of the article stated that Pisi Linux is only for Turkish users, but the distro supports more languages as well. We've corrected that.
