The development team behind the Arch Linux ARM project has announced earlier on their Twitter account that it is now possible to install the famous, customizable and lightweight Arch Linux operating system on the ARMv7l ODROID-XU4 board.

Highlights of the ODROID-XU4 single-board computer (SBC) include a Samsung Exynos 5422 Cortex-A15 processor running at 2Ghz and a Samsung Exynos Cortex-A7 Octa-core CPU, a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU with OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1, and OpenCL 1.1 full profiles, and 2GB LPDDR3 RAM.

It also offers many other attractive things like eMMC5.0 HS400 flash storage, a Micro SD slot, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, as well as an HDMI 1.4a port. The board measures 82 x 58 x 22 mm, which includes the cooling fan (see the attached photo for details).

"The ODROID-XU4 is the successor to the ODROID-XU3, putting the same Exynos 5422 in a smaller footprint and available at a lower cost. The board also adds a second USB 3.0 host port, a full-size HDMI connector, and Gigabit Ethernet. Since it uses the same SoC, this board has full software compatibility to the XU3," reads the announcement.

Here's how to install Arch Linux on ODROID-XU4

The Arch Linux ARM developers have been kind enough to provide detailed instructions for anyone attempting to install the latest version of the powerful Arch Linux operating system on the ODROID-XU4 SBC (Single-Board Computer) on the official website of the project.

We remind everyone interested in the Arch Linux ARM project that the developers are very active and they announce support for new hardware every week, so make sure that you follow them on Twitter if you want to know when your favorite hardware is supported.
