Black Lab Linux, a distribution based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and using the Xfce desktop environment, has been upgraded to version 2015.7 and is now ready for download.

The Black Lab Linux distro is mostly known for its GNOME desktop, but developers have a host of other supported environments like Xfce or KDE. They have just upgraded the Xfce flavor, and they have made some serious changes to the operating system.

The Xfce desktop is known to be very light, and the same can be said about the Black Lab Linux flavor that uses it. It's a little bit different from what you might expect, but it won't be hard to notice that familiar feeling you get with any Xfce distribution. The developer knew not to mess with the desktop too much, and users will appreciate that.

Black Lab Linux 2015.7 brings a new Linux kernel

"This spin uses the XFCE desktop 4.12 and is based on the Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server LTS technologies that power our distributions. We have set it up with a unique layout. This release is available in 64 bit and 32 bit releases. This release is fully supported until the year 2020 as our other releases. You can also order this desktop environment preinstalled on systems and on your USB Keys and SD cards. Black Lab Linux is also available with the GNOME desktop environment, the Mate desktop and the KDE desktop," said the developers in the announcement.

According to the changelog, Xfce has been 4.12, the Linux kernel has been upgraded to version 3.16.0-43, the latest Linux kernel 4.x branch is available via an installation script, GCC 4.9.2 has been implemented by default, Firefox has been upgraded to version 39, the LibreOffice 4.x branch is now default, and a number of other apps have been upgraded as well.

You can download Black Lab Linux Xfce 2015.7 right now from the official website and give it a spin.
