The application gets better with each new release

GPS navigation is an important function for any smartphone, but there wasn't anything for Ubuntu Touch until recently. As it happens, an application that's called just that, GPS Navigation, has been released a few weeks back and now a new major update has been made available.

One of the main complaints regarding Ubuntu Touch is that it doesn't have enough apps and that some of the major apps present on other platforms are not available on Ubuntu as well. The truth is that more and more of these niches are being filled with apps. Yes, there is no Whatsapp for Ubuntu, but that will change pretty soon. Things are moving forward, at a brisk pace.

Let's take the GPS Navigation app, for example. Since its release, it's been upgraded a lot. Right now it's still in development, and it carries the 0.18 version, which means that there is a lot of work left to do, but the development never stops, and the community helps with feedback. At this rate, we'll have a powerful, precise, and very-well-put-together GPS Navigation apps in just a few months.

GPS Navigation brings important fixes

One of the main issues with the application developed by Marcos Costales was that it wasn't keeping the display on, which is a problem when you need to use it for more than 30 seconds. The developer knew this, and it's at the top of the changelog.

Other changes include a brightness fix, the ability to save current position and destination, an Autozoom feature that turns on when the car is arriving at the indicated spot, better route indication, especially for highway exits, more volume has been added for voices, and some new header icons have been implemented.

You can find the GPS Navigation in the Ubuntu store, or you can update it if you already have it installed.
