On July 22, Konstantin Dmitriev announced the first maintenance release for Synfig Studio, an open-source, industrial-strength vector-based 2D animation software solution that can be used for producing feature-film quality animations.

According to the release announcement, which has also been attached at the end of the article for reference, Synfig Studio 1.0.1 is here to address a crash that occurred when there were no fonts installed on the host system, to interactively support highlighting during selection of bouding box, and to repair the switching bone parent functionality.

"We are happy to announce that the new version of Synfig Studio is available for download! This update delivers a number of fixes and some minor improvements," says Konstantin Dmitriev on behalf of the Synfig Studio development team. "There is still a lot of work ahead, but I hope to have good news for you soon."

Moreover, Synfig Studio 1.0.1 now correctly reads alpha channels for images that have an indexed palette, adds support for opening the Keyframe properties dialog by double-clicking, addresses various compilation-related issues, and updates multiple icons.

A new optimized rendering engine is coming soon

Last but not least, the keyframe's active status and description are now displayed by default in the Keyframe properties dialog. The Synfig Studio developers are currently working on the new optimized rendering engine, which should be implemented in a future update.
