Today, August 6, Mozilla started seeding the first hotfix release of the stable branch of its popular, open-source web browser for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, Mozilla Firefox 39.0.

Mozilla Firefox 39.0.3 update prompts started appearing a few minutes ago via the built-in updater of the software for the aforementioned computer operating systems. According to the release notes, this version fixes a critical security issue in the built-in PDF Viewer.

"Security researcher Cody Crews reported on a way to violate the same origin policy and inject script into a non-privileged part of the built-in PDF Viewer. This would allow an attacker to read and steal sensitive local files on the victim's computer," reads Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2015-78. "Mozilla has received reports that an exploit based on this vulnerability has been found in the wild."

All users are urged to update to Mozilla Firefox 39.0.3 as soon as possible in order to patch the critical security vulnerability detailed above. You can also download Mozilla Firefox 39.0.3 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via Softpedia or directly from the project's official website.
