The game doesn't have a launch date just yet

The newest game from Paradox Interactive is called Stellaris, and it is developed by the same team who also did the Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis series. Linux has been announced as a launch platform.

It's been a while since we played something completely new from Paradox Interactive, but it looks like Stellaris promises to deliver something entirely original that hasn't been done before. The information about the new game is scarce, and there is no gameplay trailer to understand exactly what it's going to be all about, but the developers have outlined some of the features.

If the previous games are any indication, Stellaris will be huge in scope, and it will probably allow users to make all kinds of interesting choices that will influence how the game will proceed. From the looks of it, Stellaris will have a main storyline, procedural star systems with thousands of planets, a vast number of unique random species, a complex diplomacy system, and the ability to design your own ships.

"Explore a vast galaxy full of wonder! Paradox Development Studio, makers of the Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis series, presents Stellaris, an evolution of the grand strategy genre with space exploration at its core.Featuring deep strategic gameplay, an enormous selection of alien races and emergent storytelling, Stellaris has a deeply challenging system that rewards interstellar exploration as you traverse, discover, interact and learn more about the multitude of species you will encounter during your travels," reads the official announcement.

What are the system requirements?

The game looks impressive in the screenshots, but Paradox never made games that were requesting a lot of hardware power. The Linux platform is not mentioned, but this is a native port, so the differences from the Windows version shouldn't be too great. Users will need at least Pentium IV 2.4 GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, 4GB of HDD space, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 video card.

The release date for Stellaris hasn't been set yet, but it's unlikely that the game will land in 2015.
