One of coolest apps that you can find in the Ubuntu store for phones is called WifiTransfer and was recently updated by its developer, bringing some new features.

It's true that the app repository for Ubuntu Touch is not a big one and that some important names are still missing, but on the other hand, there are a few apps in there that you won't find anywhere else. This is possible with the help of a very dedicated online community and thanks to the Ubuntu developers. For example, WifiTransfer is developed and published by a member of the community, Stuart Langridge, who also happened to work for Canonical in the past.

He published WifiTransfer a while back. This is a rather important application because it lets users move files between a phone and an OS in the same network using the FTP protocol. Try doing this with an Android or iOS device, without having to install anything on the PC. Well, I guess it's not possible.

WifiTransfer is getting better

The first version of WifiTransfer only provided some basic functionality, and truth be told, a lot of users were happy with just that, but the developer felt that it could be improved and now we have a new version to play with.

"I have updated my WifiTransfer app for Ubuntu phones - it lets you copy files, documents, etc onto the phone from your machine over wifi without needing a cable - to add two useful features. Firstly, you can now browse the files you've copied to the phone from within the app, meaning that it's much easier to copy a file over and then open it in any other phone app you choose. Second, when WifiTransfer is enabled, it will automatically show up in your file manager's Network section, meaning that you can copy files from on your desktop with just one click," wrote Stuart Langridge.

All you have to do to take advantage of its features is install the app on your phone and follow the onscreen instructions. Enjoy!
