The Fedora Project, through Peter Robinson, has announced the release of the Server edition of the Fedora 23 Alpha operating system for ARM 64-bit (AArch64) and POWER (PPC64 and PPC64le) hardware architectures.

The announcement comes two weeks after the release of the Alpha version of the upcoming Fedora 23 Linux distribution, which was made available for download for the 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (x86) instruction set architectures. Therefore, you will now be able to run Fedora 23 Alpha on devices powered by ARM 64-bit, PPC64, or PPC64 Little Endian processors.

The builds of the Fedora 23 Alpha operating system for the AArch64 and POWER architectures include the same features that are present in the 32-bit and 64-bit builds, such as extra security by using compiler flags and hardening all binaries against buffer overflows or memory corruption vulnerabilities, as well as by disabling support for the RC4 cipher and SSLv3 protocol.

Additionally, the first Alpha build of Fedora 23 Linux comes with support for Unicode 8.0, which includes 37 new emoji characters, support for processing non-ASCII URLs, as well as better sorting of Unicode text. Of course, these are mostly under-the-hood features that won't be noticed, but they will improve the overall user experience of the OS.

"We need your help to make Fedora 23 the best release yet, so please take some time to download and try out the Alpha and make sure the things that are important to you are working. If you find a bug, please report it - every bug you uncover is a chance to improve the experience for millions of Fedora users worldwide," says Peter Robinson.

Download Fedora 23 Alpha for AArch64 and PPC64

As expected, you can download the Fedora 23 Alpha operating system for the AArch64 (ARM 64-bit), PPC64, and PPC64le architectures right now and start testing and reporting bugs, as the Fedora Project needs your help to track down the most annoying issues. The Beta release of Fedora 23 will arrive on September 22, followed by the final release of Fedora 23 on October 27, if everything goes according to plan.
