Arun Raghavan has had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the PulseAudio 7.0 open-source sound server software for GNU/Linux operating systems.

According to the internal release notes, which have been attached at the end of the article for reference, PulseAudio 7.0 comes with some great new features, but also fixes those annoying issues that have been reported by users since the previous release.

Prominent features of PulseAudio 7.0 include the addition of brand new libsoxr-based resamplers, improved support for Creative SoundBlaster Omni Surround 5.1, as well as socket activation support for Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).

There's now better detection of JACK Audio Connection Kit servers, especially when using the UCM system, low-frequency effects (LFE) channel synthesis with low-pass filtering has been added, and the "srbchannel" IPC mechanism is now enabled by default.

"I just pushed out the PulseAudio 7.0 tag and tarballs, so come get them while they're fresh," says Arun Raghavan. "This one's got some new features, a bunch of incremental changes, and maybe a few bug fixes (we still have bugs?!)."

Last but not least, the exiting of the sound server due to an SIGTERM signal is no longer considered a failure, numerous bugs have been fixed, and several translations have been updated. Download the PulseAudio 7.0 sources right now from Softpedia.
