14 DAY TRIAL // After receiving the email from the Ubuntu Community Manager, David Planella, in regard to the work done by the Ubuntu Community Team in the week that has just passed, we've been informed by Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak about the latest features that landed in the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system and will ship with the upcoming OTA-7 software update.
According to Mr. Zemczak, it looks like the day of September 25 was pretty quiet, as the Ubuntu Touch developers only managed to implement new versions of the Dialer and Messaging apps, which received mostly usability enhancements, along with a new Unity Scopes Shell and System Settings apps.
However, the most important feature that landed today for the Ubuntu Touch mobile OS is the implementation of brand new VPN enable/disable switch in the Indicator-Network component. Unfortunately, the feature appears to be incomplete, and the Ubuntu Touch developers are currently discussing whether or not it will land in OTA-7.
"A small note for landers: do not worry about the wily freezes (and/or the frozen period before the opening of W+1) affecting your landings," says Łukasz Zemczak. "The landing team will make sure that in those slightly 'troublesome' times all touch landers will have a place to land their dual silos. But more on that next week."
Lastly, Mr. Zemczak reports that new custom tarballs are now ready for testing (we reported on them yesterday), and they include updated child Scopes. The new custom tarballs are for krillin devices and will hit the streets sometime next, most probably on Monday, when we will have more news about Ubuntu Touch OTA-7.
