The Bangalore Mobile Developer Summit 2015 event starts soon

On October 5, Canonical announced that the next Ubuntu Hackathon event would take place next week in Bangalore, the capital of India's southern Karnataka state, between October 15-16, 2015.

Canonical, the company behind the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux, is the platinum sponsor of the Mobile Developer Summit 2015 event in Bangalore, India, and they will host the first ever Ubuntu Hackathon with great prizes for the winners.

As you might know, BQ, Canonical and Snapdeal launched the first Ubuntu phones in India, the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition. Anyone can purchase them from Snapdeal's online shops, and if you're a skilled developer, you can even participate in the Ubuntu Hackathon event.

"With Bangalore being a developer hub, we are very excited to meet all the talented developers from across India and are get them hacking on the latest operating system to hit the Indian market," says Amrisha, Social Media and Campaign Manager at Canonical.

The prizes of India's first Ubuntu Hackathon

Ubuntu Hackathon has four award categories, the Most Innovative Award, Best Group Award, Best Rookie Award, and IoT Special Prize. The winner of the first category will get a 20,000 INR ($300) Snapdeal voucher, an Ubuntu Dell laptop, and a BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphone.

While the winners of the second category will go home with BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphones, one for each person in the group, but no more than five, and 3 passes to the Mobile World Congress 2016 event, winners of the third category will get a BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphone and Bluetooth Vivaldi speakers.

Lastly, the winners of the fourth category will go home with a collectors item, the awesome Ubuntu Matchbox case for Raspberry Pi 2. The event will take place at the Indian Institute of Science. More details will be available next week, when the event gets near.
