The fifth RC build of Linux kernel 4.3 out now

Just a few moments ago, October 11, Linus Torvalds announced that the fifth Release Candidate (RC) build of the upcoming Linux 4.3 kernel was available for download and testing.

According to Mr. Torvalds, things appear to have calmed down and the release cycle of Linux kernel 4.3 continues to be fairly smooth, for now. There are no big features implemented in this fifth RC build, except for some nasty fallout from the recently implemented strscpy thingy, as well as the discovery of an ancient and fascinating bug in the EXT3 and EXT4 filesystems.

"The 4.3 release cycle continues to be fairly smooth - knock wood. There's nothing particularly worrying here: we had some annoying fallout from the new strscpy stuff (it's not actually *used* anywhere yet, but we had build failures on some architectures), and a vfs layer change uncovered an ancient and fascinating ext[34] bug, but on the whole things look pretty normal," says Linus Torvalds.

As expected, Linux kernel 4.3 Release Candidate 5 comes with multiple small fixes for the supported hardware architectures, as well as driver updates, along with several filesystem improvements. You can download Linux kernel 4.3 RC5 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use. More details about the things implemented in this release can be found in the appended shortlog.
