The Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 update continues to receive all kinds of new packages and fixes, and it looks like the developers have had a really busy week.

The new OTA-8 update is expected to land on November 18 if nothing out of the ordinary happens until then. The previous two release cycles have been pretty calm, but we now have some pretty important upgrades for Mir and Unity, not to mention upgrades for a number of the other important components.

This is also the first update for Ubuntu Touch that should unify the release versions for all the platforms so that users can understand what they are using. For example, Meizu MX4 arrived a little bit after the other ones and had a different version.

OTA-8 is exciting, to say the least

“Today was a busy landing day with multiple new packages making their way to the overlay PPA. Just to mention a few of them, we had a new UITK, address-book, telepathy-ofono (for playing ringtone on both speaker and headphones), messaging-app, history-service and ubuntu-push. We also had a new versions of the pay packages that add the support for in-app-purchases,” wrote Canonical’s Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak on his regular daily message.

He also said that a day earlier a number of fixes have landed for ubuntu-push so that the push-client is no longer draining power during no-network situations, and new account-polld with some timeout logic fixes have landed as well.

As it stands right now, Ubuntu Touch officially works on Nexus 4, BQ Aquaris e4.5, BQ E5 HD, and Meizu MX 4. Unofficially, there are a few ports in the works, more notably for OnePlus One and Nexus 5.

The new OTA-8 update will be an important release, and we'll hear more details about its launch when we get closer to the actual date.
