Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Xfce arrived with its KDE counterpart and it’s the last one in the 17.x branch of the famous operating system.

Even if the Xfce and KDE flavors are not exactly the front runners, they still have a lot of users that eagerly expect the launch of a new version. Just like the KDE editions, which we covered with a screenshot tour, the latest version of Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Xfce has started to show its age, although its users would never say that.

We covered the launch on January 10 for Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Xfce, but we can now take a closer look at the distribution and see what it looks like, two years after its initial release. Just like the Ubuntu base, Linux Mint 17.3 is supported until 2019. That’s true for all the flavors, with the exceptions of the ones using Debian as their base.

Users can download the latest version of Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Xfce, but they can also upgrade from a previous release. The main difference is that the developers don’t recommend to upgrade if you feel your system is working great and you don’t need to. The upgrade is not pushed onto users and they are free to say no.

“Linux Mint 17.3 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use,” is noted in the official announcement.

The Linux distribution is based on Linux kernel 3.19, Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base.

You can download Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Xfce right now from Softpedia and give it a spin. This is a Live CD image, and it should work just fine, even in a virtual environment.
