If you're reading the news lately, you would know by now that Mozilla has pushed the Firefox 44.0 web browser to the stable channel for all supported operating systems, including Linux, Mac and Windows.

Canonical was quick, as usual, to update the default web browser in all of its supported Ubuntu Linux operating systems to Mozilla Firefox 44.0 earlier today and also make a public announcement about it for those curious to see what security issues have been resolved.

Mozilla Firefox 44.0 is not an important release to start with, and among its best new features, we can mention support for push notifications, support for H.264 media streaming, support for WebM/VP9 video streaming on platforms that do not support H.264/MP4 playback, and support for the brotli compression format for HTTPS.

Therefore, we're informing all Ubuntu users that Mozilla Firefox 44.0 is now available in the default software repositories of their operating systems, and they can update right now. To update, run the Software Updater utility from the Dash, and apply all existing updates. Don't forget to restart your web browser for the update to be applied.

Mozilla Firefox 44.0 is currently supported on the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating systems. Please update as soon as possible.
