Today KDE has announced the general availability of KDE Plasma 5.6.2, the second maintenance release in the stable KDE Plasma 5.6 series of the acclaimed desktop environment for GNU/Linux operating systems.

According to the release notes, KDE Plasma 5.6.2 is a small point release in the development cycle of KDE Plasma 5.6, fixing some of the most annoying issues reported by users since last week's KDE Plasma 5.6.1 update, thus improving the overall stability and reliability of the desktop environment.

Among the changes, we can notice that the Weather plasmoid now supports BBC's new JSON-based search and modified XML, support for Qt 5.7 has been added to the Oxygen and Breeze themes, along with the isQtQuickControl function, and the Calendar applet can now clear the selection before it goes into hiding.

"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.6.2. Plasma 5.6 was released in March with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience," reads the announcement published on April 5, 2016. "This release adds another week's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors."

Three more point releases are planned for KDE Plasma 5.6

The KDE Plasma 5.6 desktop environment will receive three more point releases in the next couple of months, and the next one, KDE Plasma 5.6.3, is planned for April 19, 2016, which means only two weeks from today's announcement. Then, KDE Plasma 5.6.4 will be released on May 10, and the last one, KDE Plasma 5.6.5, should land on June 14, 2016.

After that, the KDE developers will concentrate their efforts on the next major update of the KDE Plasma desktop environment, Plasma 5.7, which should see the light of day on July 5, 2016.
