14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical, through Sergio Schvezov, announced a few minutes ago, April 7, 2016, the release and immediate availability of the Snapcraft 2.7 Snappy creator tool for the Snappy Ubuntu Core 16.04 LTS operating system.
As you may or may not know, Snapcraft is the main component of the Ubuntu Snappy OS for embedded and IoT (Internet of Things) devices, allowing users to create and manage snaps, so it's vital that Canonical releases regular updates for the software, bringing new features or improving existing ones.
Today's release, Snapcraft 2.7, appears to be a significant update, improving the support for pkg-config within installdir, the stage directory, as well as the host. It also implements support for looking up libraries via the host, which lets users use "build-packages" instead of "stage-packages."
Moreover, it is now possible to pass parameters to the make plugin, common "source" related keywords are now supported in the part definition for the copy plugin, and invalid keywords are no longer allowed in parts if they're not defined by the plugin in its schema. Moreover, errors are handled much better as far as the store is concerned, and the cleaning process got some minor performance improvements.
Here's how to install Snapcraft 2.7 in Ubuntu
Snapcraft 2.7 has been pushed to the main software repositories of the now-in-development Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, but you can also install it on Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) by running the command attached below.
