14 DAY TRIAL // We have confirmation from UBports' Marius Gripsgård and Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 update has been officially released for OnePlus One, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 devices.
Two days ago, we wrote a story to inform our readers that Canonical promised to release the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 software update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices a day later than originally planned due to a last-minute issue that needed to be fixed.
Then, due to some unforeseeable technical issues while trying to fix the respective bug, which was discovered in the PulseAudio sound server not allowing the Camera and Messaging apps to access the microphone when in video mode, the OTA-10 was delayed again.
OTA-10 is a phased update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 users
And today, April 8, 2016, Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical confirms that the OTA-10 update has been officially released to the stable channels for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices. "Since it is Friday and we all hate Friday releases, we decided to play it safe and use phased upgrades procedure here as well," said Mr. Zemczak.
In the meantime, we had a quick chat with Marius Gripsgård, maintainer of the OnePlus One port of Ubuntu Touch, who confirms for us the availability of OTA-10 for these type of devices. "Version 11 is the same as 10, the reason why it's on 11 is because I have released versions with fixes," said Mr. Gripsgård.
Summing things up, if you have a OnePlus One Ubuntu Phone, you can update right now (the version number is 11, but it's the same as the official OTA-10 with the exception of some extra patches). On the other hand, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 users can check for the OTA-10 update, but if you don't see it, check again in a few hours. By tomorrow, everyone will have Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 on their phones.
