Just a few moments ago, June 4, 2016, the Debian Project announced on their Twitter account that the eleventh and last maintenance release in the stable Debian GNU/Linux 7 "Wheezy" operating system was available for download.

The Debian GNU/Linux 7.11 update is now available for all users who are still running the "Wheezy" distribution on their personal computers or servers, and it looks like this is the last install medium that will ever be offered for the Debian GNU/Linux 7 series.

As you might know, Debian GNU/Linux 7 "Wheezy" became an LTS (Long Term Support) release at the end of April 2016, as the Debian LTS team took over the maintenance of the operating system to provide users with critical security patches and software updates for two more years, until May 31, 2018.

"The packages from DSA 3548 are not included in this point release for technical reasons, as are some architectures for DSA 3547, DSA 3219, DSA 3482 and DSA 3246. All other security updates released during the lifetime of 'wheezy' that have not previously been part of a point release are included in this update," reads the announcement.

Debian 8.5 GNU/Linux "Jessie" officially released

Also today, the Debian Project has been happy to announce the availability of the fifth update for the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating system, Debian 8.5, which brings all the latest fixes and improvements that have been made available on the stable/current repositories during the past two months.

Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 was released on the second day of April, so if you intend to deploy the operating system with the latest updates on new computers, you can now download the Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" install mediums. However, if you're running Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 or a previous release, just make sure you have the latest updates installed from the main repos.

Download Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" and Debian GNU/Linux 7.11 "Wheezy" right now via our website. The Live CDs will be available in the coming days.
