It looks like the "This Week in Solus" weekly newsletter is a thing again, and this is the second week in a row Solus developer Joshua Strobl announces a new installation to keep the community updated with the latest innovations.

So the 31st TWIS (This Week in Solus) newsletter is here to inform Solus users that their Linux kernel-based operating system is now officially embracing the rolling release model, which means that what you're using right now will be supported forever and ever, or at least until something breaks and you need to reinstall.

As usual, we had a quick chat with Solus founder and lead developer Ikey Doherty, who revealed that Solus went full rolling release because it better suits their engineering practices of delivering fast updates to users. "Yeah, we gave in eventually. We've been in denial about it for a long time but you know, we're more rolling than static, so now we're embracing it fully."

Solus 2.0 to use the GNOME 3.22.x Stack

Solus 1.2.1 will be released next week, but now that Solus has become a rolling release distro, these milestones are here just for newcomers to this OS to grab and install on their personal computers so that they don't have to fetch a huge number of updates immediately after the installation finishes

Once Solus 1.2.1 is out, which will include a little surprise from me, as I've donated a nice set of wallpapers to Solus (by doing this, I hope that many other artists will be encouraged to contribute nice wallpapers to this operating system), the team will be rolling out the GNOME 3.20 Stack update, as well as the sound system to PulseAudio 9.

Thanks to the creator of the popular Arc GTK theme and icons, which is the default theme used in Solus, the Budgie desktop environment is fully compatible with GNOME 3.20. So yeah, lots of goodies are coming to Solus users, and it's not even Christmas yet. Not to mention a new set of improvements to ypkg2 build tool.

Last but not least, lots of applications have been updated to their latest versions at the moment of writing this article. Among the most popular ones, we can mention Mozilla Thunderbird 45.2.0, uGet 2.0.8, darktable 2.0.5, lollypop 0.9.112, Mesa 12.0.1 3D Graphics Library, and Samba 4.3.11. So remember to update your Solus OS, always!
