Today, August 1, 2016, Kodi's Martijn Kaijser has informed us about the availability of the third Alpha development milestone of the upcoming cross-platform and open-source Kodi 17 "Krypton" media center.

Kodi 17 Alpha 3 comes exactly one month after the debut of the second Alpha build, which was, in fact, the first one to be made available for public testing. During the entire month of July, the Kodi development team managed to squash more of those nasty bugs reported by users since Kodi 17 Alpha 2, as well as to add some new exciting features.

The biggest new changes brought about by today's Kodi 17 "Krypton" Alpha 3 milestone are improvements to the video playback, the implementation of a "Copy to Kodi" function on the iOS platform, support for the latest FFMpeg 3.1 multimedia frameworks, as well as Visual Studio 2015 support for the Windows builds.

First Beta of Kodi 17 to be available soon

The third Alpha of Kodi 17 ships with 3dlut and simple ICC linking support for color correction, a new game controller add-on that promises to make configuring game controllers a breeze in Kodi, a huge number of improvements to the Live TV and PVR (Personal Video Recorder) components, and updates to the Music Library, and new features for the default skins.

"As you have noticed we included two new default skins. Estuary for regular use and Estouchy for touchscreen devices," says Martijn Kaijser. "At the same time we made sure some limitations we had to deal with in the past are now solved or at least improved. One of those was that the context menu (right click) didn’t work on any media items that were displayed on the home screen."

Now that the third Alpha build of Kodi 17 "Krypton" is out and you can download it right now via our website, it's time for the project's development team to concentrate all of their efforts on the next milestone, which should probably be the first Beta. As usual, if you're testing Kodi 17, please note that these are pre-release versions, not suitable for deployment in production environments.
